ETC Affinity Groups

ABOUT AFFINITY GROUPS

ETC, with the support of the IDEA Committee, is piloting an Affinity Groups program!  Affinity Groups are typically a collection of individuals who share a common identity characteristic. The unifying characteristic is usually something that’s traditionally underrepresented and may make folks with that identity feel isolated. The goal of these Affinity Groups is to help members find community within the higher ed AV world and create safe spaces for people of different identities to support each other in their professional and personal lives.

The first Affinity Groups will be:

  • People of Color
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Neurodiversity/Disability/Mental Health
  • Military/Veterans/Military Affiliated
  • 35 and younger
  • Women in Tech

The groups are meant to communicate throughout the year, be self-governed and self-organized, and provide offerings to meet the needs of its members.  ETC will provide logistical support in the form of private listservs and Zoom meetings as requested. The IDEA committee will provide guidance to the groups around organizing, activities, and support.  As the first groups get established and the ETC community continues to grow, more groups can be added as requested.
